Sorry, no porn, but does anyone own a Hi-Def DLP

front projector. I've been toying with the idea of getting one, but at around $5k minimum just for the projector, I need some major input. Thanks

    Re: Thanks a lot.

It's a pretty informative site. I have a Sharp 9000U which when I bought it was about as good as they get, they have since released 2 newer generation projectors, the newest being the 12000. This has the HD2 "Mustang" DLP chip, which is state of the art for single chip units, so if you're interested in a DLP unit make sure it has a Mustang chip.

    Yes (more)

I have a Sharp DLP XVZ9000U hi-def dlp front projector. The new model of this one is the 10000. I have a 110-inch 16:9 Stewart Firehawk screen for it.

I previously had a 65" 16:9 hi-def rear projection TV from Toshiba. Now that I have the front projector, I will never go back.

I use it with my DVD player most often, but also send it hi-def signals from DirecTV (the few channels that they have in hi-def) as well as over-the-air hi-def signals (the few that I can get in my area) and also hi-def signals from my XBOX (again on the few titles that support 1080i or 720p).

Do you have any specific questions about my setup? Let me know.
Doh--see I\'m out of date. :-)

The 9000 is plenty bright for me. But, I had a room built just to be a media room...walls and ceiling are a dark bluish black color called 'Cyberspace', and there are no windows, so I don't need a super-bright projector.
Re: Doh--see I'm out of date. :-)

I, too, have a dedicated room w/ dark red walls, no windows. The problem is I put in a 155 inch screen (Firehawk) which is awesome, but I need more brightness because of the screen size. Sony is about to release a new technology projector, the Qualia 004 with what they call SXRD, sort of like liquid crystal on silicon, with 6,000,000 pixels, the only problem is it will cost $25K. Ouch!!!

Your reply is exactly what I was looking for.

I wanted someone's opinion whether a front projector's picture is at least comparable to a rear projector. When you say that you'll never go back, I'm assuming that the front projector has a better picture. Can I ask how much you paid for yours, and how far is your seating area from the screen since you have a 110" screen? Thanks again
