What is the attraction of more expensive watches?

If they tell time accurately, which most do, and look good, which many do, why spend more for a name watch? If you want more functionality, you can find the same functionality in a less-expensive chronometer as you can find in a pricier watch. I'm just curious. Is there anything besides that status of the name that makes some of these watches more desireable?
Lobo

But it's easier for me to answer the car question.

More expensive cars usually come with more features (e.g., soft leather seats with massage, wood-grained interior, GPS, self-closing doors, etc.), higher technology, better suspension, better service/warranty and maybe even a more powerful engine. What are the analogous things in a watch? One could say that a three-wheel ATV and an expensive car can both get you from point A to point B, but the expensive car will do so a LOT more comfortably. A Timex and a Rolex will both tell you the time but the Rolex will ________. (Please fill in the blank.)
Lobo

BUT the Rolex against the Timex (as an example)

will:

Have been around longer with interesting developments over the years.
Have a prestigious and well recognised style.
Have many watches made in precious metals.
Have a certified chronometer grade movement.
Precision made parts and some possibly finished by hand.
Have sapphire crystal.
And many other things that I can't think of right now.
For accuracy, no matter if the mechanical or automatic watch costs $30 or $300,000, you can't get as accurate as a quartz watch!
I think the best thing is to buy whatever you personally like.

Here's why-

Appreciating a fine watch requires a certain degree of connoisseurship. You have to become knowlegable about the various movements and appreciate the history and contributions of the more prestigous "houses" (manufacturers). If you appreciate mechanical things (and my guess is that you do) then you could easily "get into" fine timepieces.
