Actually the band wasn\'t designed to look like
tires. Other previous Oris watches have the same band (non-F1 related watches). I think it's just a coincidence that their band happens to look like tires! Or maybe that's why Williams decided to go with Oris since they already have a band that looks like tires.
Either way Oris is a good watch company with decent movements. But they are by no means cheap. About on par with Tags. Then again I might choose an Oris over a Tag since Tags are now made in Japan. So much for Swiss made.

Like I said, lucky coincidence
Oris had that rubber strap before they came out with this limited edition Williams F1 watch. Yea I guess it looks sort of like tire grooves, but the strap wasn't intentionally made to look like that. The proof is that earlier Oris watches had the same rubber strap design. I mean even their diver's watches have the same rubber strap. What is the explanation behind that? "Divers regularly see cars at the bottom of the ocean which have the same tire tread designs as our straps" ??? It's something called marketing. And if it make you lot feel special enough to go buy one, especially thinking that the rubber strap is supposed to look like an F1 tire then those marketing guys are pretty smart. Either that or the consumers are pretty .... well you can figure it out.

Re: Like I said, lucky coincidence
I guess you are right just lucky. The band was actually designed for the introduction of the TT1 series about two years ago. It was designerd to look like a tire. It was then placed into the dive watch series .... Then placed onto the F1.
Anyway ... bought the watch looks great .... The carbon fiber face is black with a navy blue outer ring. It's the same band I have on the TT1 Chrono.
