What do you think of Cadillac's CTS-V racecar??

It sounds like it will have 500 hp and with gobs of torque. It will weigh around 2,900 pounds.

It will be in the GT class of the SCCA World Challenge series and compete with the Audi RS6, the BMW M3, Porsche 911, Dodge Viper.

there have been some discussions on SCCA...

Bulletin Board about this car. General consensus is that it bends the rules quite a bit. The engine is moved back, the drivers seat is literally behind the pillar, and most notably the car is chopped above the fenders. At the Detroit Auto show they were handing out a "hero card" of the car and they have the street car and racecar from the same angle one right above the other. It looks like 3 inches is missing from the racecar. We shall see.

The SCCA has been very lenient with GM on this.

David's right, the discussion on the SCCA board has gotten heated. Another reason why PTG has left that series, with idiotic rule applications.

Not to be a cynic, but I hope this is NOT why

<b>CADILLAC® NAMED OFFICIAL VEHICLE OF SCCA PRO RACING®

KANSAS CITY , Mo. ( Feb. 4, 2004 ) – Sports Car Club of America, Inc. ( SCCA ®) announced today that Cadillac has become the “Official Vehicle of SCCA Pro Racing .”

The agreement compliments Cadillac’s initial foray into the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT Championship, announced January 1. Through the partnership, SCCA Pro Racing provides Cadillac a number of unique opportunities to promote its products in assorted advertising and marketing campaigns.

“Cadillac is renowned for being one of the world’s premium luxury brands, and its technical prowess and new emphasis on high performance makes for a perfect fit for SCCA Pro Racing ,” SCCA Pro Racing President and CEO Steve Johnson said. “We’re thrilled to have Cadillac sign on as our first official vehicle.”

“The SCCA is a natural choice for us, and is further evidence of the changes taking place at Cadillac,” Cadillac General Manager Mark LaNeve said. “The World Challenge GT Series offers us the opportunity to compete on the track with the same competitors we go up against in the marketplace.”

As part of the Official Vehicle program, Cadillac vehicles, including the new CTS-V, will not only be on display at each SCCA SPEED World Challenge event, but will be utilized in on-track activities surrounding the series. As part of the marketing exposure package associated with the agreement, Cadillac will become the primary sponsor of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Cadillac Live Web Timing.

The CTS-V race car is by weight 73 percent stock-derived based on the CTS-V, Cadillac's first entry into the low-volume, high-performance luxury car niche. The production CTS-V and CTS-V race car share common technology - in the form of the all-aluminum V-8 engine, front and rear suspension, steering system, differential and halfshafts - and talent, as the engineers who conceived the CTS-V for street use were directly involved in the creation of the race car.

SCCA Pro Racing Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Sports Car Club of America, Inc., owns, organizes and operates the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championships, North America’s best production car road racing series. A member of the Automobile Competition Committee of the United States (ACCUS/FIA), SCCA Pro Racing also provides sanction for the Motorock Trans-Am Tour, Cooper Tires Championship Series, Formula Drift and Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Tires.

The SCCA SPEED World Challenge season will make its first standing start of 2004 at Sebring International Raceway for the fourth-consecutive year as part of the 52nd Mobil1 Twelve Hours of Sebring week March 17-20. In 2004, the series will visit Lime Rock Park , Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Infineon Raceway, Portland International Raceway, Mosport International Raceway, Road America , Road Atlanta Motorsports Center and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. I get to drive the CTS-V street car!!!

At the new Barber track In B'ham March 6. I have no idea how I got the invite, as I am definately not a CAD kind of guy. Should be lots of fun though, plus I get to drive the track.
BTW, if any of you like motorcycles, their museum just blew me away, it was absolutely awesome!
