    You could say that...

But, this not a new story. It's been talked about for some time. JPM didn't handle the situation well. Any employee who interacts with the "team" in that manner needs to be counseled. We will see if JPM has made the right move. He still brings a lot to the team and they'd still like to keep him in reality. The fact remains that he could have won the French race had he been in position to get by Ralf when he faltered at the end. Juan had "given up" by then and was just cruising. Only time will tell if he learned anything from it.2002 AW/IR M3/SMG

    Why exactly?

JPM was in the best position to judge and it’s not like the Schumacher’s aren’t used to getting preferential treatment! If Patrick Head really made the comment “I think then he went into a bit of a sulk and backed off and cruised to the end of the race and maybe finished 15 or 20 seconds behind Ralf”, I have two issues with it. It’s an absurd comment from the point of view that he expects us to believe he has to ‘think’ this was the situation…why does he have to think about it, I don’t work for an F1 team but even I know he has access to a multitude of data with which to prove his clam and there by remove his opinion or ‘what he thinks’ for the issue and secondly, “maybe finished 15 or 20 seconds behind Ralf”…what’s he trying to tell us, that he doesn’t know or refused to take the time to find out! I’m sure one of his minions could have gotten him an answer in no time.

Still though, it’s a hell of a way to start the season on the right foot and inspire your driver to give it his all!

Unless JPM is topping the points, I’m sure we’ll see Ralf’s car getting the technical tweaks in the second half of the season.

    Re: Why exactly?

The fact of the matter is that JPM thought the team had told Ralf to stop early to counter his own decision to make an early stop. They hadn't done that, but he proceeded to go off on them. He just lost it. In reality, he was not in the best position to know what was happening. I remember seeing his pace drop off at the end in the laptimes. JPM drives the car. If he decides to cruise, he's gonna cruise. There's not much Patrick can do to give him a boost. They knew the situation and JPM's state of mind.

It is a hell of a way to start the season, but JPM is not short on self confidence.

I'm going to assume that the two drivers will stay close to one another in the poins in any case. After all, Williams cares more about the Contructors Championship, so they will want as many points as possible. I think both cars will be to the same standard, because there's no reason not to be. They won't be in a situation where they are short parts or at least they are not likely to be.

Don't missunderstand me. I like JPM a lot and I'm very sorry to see him go.2002 AW/IR M3/SMG

    meanwhile back in the booth...

    from PlanetF1

Juan Won't Get His Radio Show
Max Mosley’s plan to give more accessability to F1 fans around the world has hit yet another snag.

Last season he was going to televise the driver briefings to make up for the fact that Sunday morning warm-up had been removed. It didn't happen.

This season Max was intending to feature more car-to-pits radio transmissions from the F1 drivers. Charlie Whiting has swiftly pointed out that one broadcast from Montoya at the French GP would have made Johnny Rotten’s recent TV outbursts look like a Women’s Institute Garden party..

The full quote from Montoya was “****ing don’t you **** with me you ****ing ******** from *****. If you don’t get your ******* ***** I’m going to *******
    Stick that up your ******* Patrick. Aye Caramba ***** ****** ****** ********* ** ***** ***** and his dog.

    BWHAHAHAHAHA!!! Hilarious !!!!!!!! Hey, he\'s >

    Latin, eh?

Damn, that is funny.... Now, THAT is a radio program I'd listen to. Better than Rick DeBruhl, although listening to David Hobbs, who I guarantee is drunk fo reach broadcast, is priceless. I know him, and he's really a delightful, funny guy.

There was one broadcast 2 seasons ago. Coulthard's car had just crapped out, and the camera focused on this beautiful woman in the pits (duh) looking distressed. DeBruhl said, "well, there is David Counthard's latest girlfriend, clearly distressed about his DNF..."

Whereupon Hobbs, who clearly had forgotten that his mic was still on, mumbled, on LIVE TV, the following gem: "Well, if she plays her cards right, she can be my girlfriend, too." The next thing you hear is 1/2 second of Steve Matchett beginning ot laugh hsterically, followed by radio silence for 5 seconds, meanwhile the race is still on.

My wife & I about lost it. And Hobbs didn't say 5 words fo rthe rest of the race. It was priceless!!

    Re: Why exactly?

I agree for the most part and I not saying JPM didn’t back off, I just saying the Patrick should have the facts and state them and not give us ‘what he thought’. I also think the drivers know more about what’s going in the other car that we’re lead to believe.

Ralf is an okay driver but I think JPM could be a great driver but like any team, you’ve got the have the car and we’ll have to wait and see how things start.

As for the spec of the cars, we’re talking about top teams here where they’ll spend a million to get a few tenths so, just my opinion, as we get close to the end of the season, Williams is going to be doing what they can to keep the little things away from JPM to prevent him taking them with him to McLaren and he’ll not be privy to any of the development on the 05 car or anything they find that might give them that half second over the other teams in 05 that can be applied to the 04 car. Of course it depends on where he is in the championship at that time but, as you say and as Frank Williams has proved on many occasions, he doesn’t care about the driver’s championship, just the constructors!

    It\'s not going to change

I guarantee you he will not have fair treatment at McLare. Ron Dennis is known to make favoritisms and he loves Kimi who will always be #1 even if Montoya someohow manages to beat him on a regular basis. Kimi will have chassis #1, will have the better engine, better engineer, and better tacticts. It only proves that Montoya is not 1/4 of the driver people think he is. You build a team around you, not destroy it. Ayrton did it, Michael did it and other great driver will do it. Go to McLaren, hopefully Williams will get Jenson back or maybe opt for someone like Sebastian Bourdier to bring new blood in the sport. Oh and please spare me the flame, if you can't back with proof that Montoya is a great driver don't argue. A couple of hazardous kamikaze ball passes do not make a great driver, results and full dedication to your work and teamwork make a great driver.

    you might have seen...

recently, I'm not sure if it was on Motorsport Mundial, they had a piece on Kimi and DC doing a week's worth of promotion and team related work.....
press appearance for DC, charity hockey game for Kimi, visit to the factory for both, visit to a Mercedes factory for both, photo shoot for Merc SLR for DC, tire testing for Kimi, More sponsor activities for both.... you get the point it's alotta work! This I think is where DC really shines and one of the reasons why he had been at Maclaren for so long. And this is what JPM sucks at and the reason why he's on the outs with Williams.

I would love to have F1 radio be open...

I take a scanner to the CART and IRL races, and you can hear some FUNNY stuff.

Like Tracy and Green yelling at each other after Tracy hit Franchitti at the Houston GP. THAT was some funny ****e.

Too bad the F1 teams don't use analog radios...

    Learn and move on...

It is unfortunate that Montoya had to get broken into F1 with a first class team...I think he has learned a little bit and now its time to move on - lucky for him he is ending up with another first class team. Button coming back (if) to F1 with the experience he has now is a great example of coming up the system in a better way - let someone else deal with the [Oops!]...

With Kimi - he is a special case - he is is a kid but very stable out of the gate
