    Not exactly

Porsche has been somewhat more limited in their scope of racing, but moreover they've tended over the years to use their powerful lobby in classes they've dominated to keep away balanced competition in favor of PR-favorable dominance.

I think you have your race series confused...

    >>>But the M3's stand no chance...they porformed poorly before but with huge reliability problems before and had to pull out. Then they had to illegally substitute with the wonderful V8 M3's as desperate measure<<<

Are you sure you know what you are talking about?
Please show me when and where BMW/PTG put a V8 in an M3 in SWC GT.

Yeah after BMW leaves only privateers and SCCA allows cadillac to build a car that doesn't even remotely resemble the street car.

They'll fill it with penalty weight until Audi can

catch it. Kinda sad how Audi needed hundreds of pounds of weight advantage, all-wheel-drive launches, AND a turbocharged V8 just to get even with a little inline 6 in the BMW, and then needed a good dose of luck to take the championship.

No slam on Randy Posey, he seems like a great guy and a good driver.

Was the M3 GTR based on a road car? Barely...

If BMW M wanted to win so many races with the E46 M3, why didn't they reduce the weight of it and/or put a V-8 in it?

Yes, but in ALMS the cars in GT were all more radical.
