Close, but the 3 is better lookin....

The 2.3 Mazda 3 gets the same mileage, has more power and doesnt look like the bastard child of an X3. God, the interior of the 1 series door panels are gross....

    No Way!!!

RWD vs FWD is the major difference!!!
Styling is always subjective anyways, BMW has always been the driving dynamics.
    MIATA vs Z4 case closed!!!
Read this article from Auto Week, American designer from Design works right here in SoCal!!!

The 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5 has a better power/weight ratio than the Z4 2.5i. It also costs around $10,000 less.

Why have the 1 series when the MC is already doing well?

    2 door hatch = 1 series

I think the 2 door hatch will be called 1 series as well (even though on the surface, this seems to be somewhat inconsistent with their naming policy). 2 series = coupe, convertible, roadster.

It wouldn't make sense to badge the 2 door hatch as 2 series, since it will be positioned below the 4 door hatch (whereas two series would imply that it's positioned above the 1 series in BMW's lineup.

I thought Bangle didn't want BMWs to look the

same. The front bumper looks like the bumper on the 330i Sport.

lights, doors, windows, bumpers, side mirrors... it all looks different to me. but the back view of the new 1er reminds me on something, I just don't know what. biggest difference I see is the backdoors on the Mazda are better, since they seem to be wider.

or ford Focus for that matter...

I was watching some show and it said that the ford focus and the new mazda 3 share the same platform, and many parts. Ford owns Mazda BTW.

Anyway , its true, bmw's integrity is not what it used to be

or any other european or asian hatchback......

for that matter. You and rick have simply not seen yet pics of an Alfa 147,Opel Astra or a VW Golf. The box concept with a thick C-pillar is clearly a golf copy, the whole market segment in europe is usually called golf class,if they made a light truck it would look somehow like a ford f-series.
By hatchback standards it looks as much BMW as possible and nobody exept real idiots(Yes,idiots!)will think it looks like a mazda.

Yeah, those two look NOTHING alike...

...considering the rest of the hatchback market in Europe. Yes, there are certain similarities all those cars shares, but those are what defines a hatchback. To say that one is a body double of the other is like saying that two coupes look alike just because they both have two doors.

I suppose this is somewhat hard to grasp for people living in a country that doesn't really have a hatchback market, but trust me, to a European, the 1 series looks just like what they would expect a BMW hatch to look like.
