Canadians, do your part to combat rising gas price
Having some control over gas prices...
I hear we are going to hit close to $1.00 a litre by the summer.
Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united
action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH
MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read it and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about 69.9 cents a litre is super cheap. Me too! It is currently 76.9 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a Litre of gas is CHEAP at 69.9, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing THEIR gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices If we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON"T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest
companies (which now are PETRO CANADA & SHELL). If they are not
selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce
their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an
impact we need to reach literally millions of Shell and Petro Canada
gas buyers.
It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this
point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!
I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you sends it
to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least
ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000). and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION
consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level
further you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten
more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could
conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?
Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you,
please pass this message on.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES AND KEEP THEM DOWN.
THIS CAN REALLY WORK.
YOU KNOW THEY LOVE HOLIDAYS AND SUMMER TRAVELERS.
Note:
This can work if people actually think about where they are buying their gas, and stop the "I buy my gas at xxxxxx because it's better for my car" or "this is where I always buy my gas" idiotic logic. Gas is gas and it doesn't matter who you buy it from, so change your habit pattern. I am amazed at the number of people who are buying gas at a station which is five cents higher than the station across the street. Do they really think they are getting better gas? If even 15 or 20 percent of the buyers stopped buying at Petro Canada and Shell, it would have a noticeable effect. Stop complaining and do something about the high prices

Stop this BS, I seen this every spring last 3 yrs.
The only guy you are going to hurt is the local gas station owner (franchise)!!!!! This is why: Every gas station buys their gas at one of a handful of distributors, they buy their gas from refineries and eventually those buy it from the BIG companies, PetroCan, Exxon, Shell. The only difference in gasoline "brands" at the retail level is the additives, NOT THE SOURCE. Only a very small percentage of Shell's revenues come from retail sales, or depend on them, because of this structure. So by boycotting one brand, you will accomplish nothing! Gas prices are where they are because of taxes and politics (US in particular).

Come to Saskatchewan, and I\'ll show you bad roads!
esp that pesky transcanada! that's some harsh driving!
If our roads were actually as decent as Calgary's, then I'd have nothing to complain about. But since they arent', I'm gonna complain!Best way to describe the e30:
"...like that hot girl who doesnt dress like a slut, u know shes hot, yet
shows just enough to make it known."

I wouldn\'t venture that assumption.
The laws of supply and demand do indeed dictate that as demand for a good decreases, quantity supplied decreases and the price accordingly decreases. However what you haven't considered is that the consumers will readjust their spending to a new market equilibrium after the price decreases. That is of course an increase in demand, where quantity supplied increases and price increases.
That "300 million e-mails" scenario is a little unrealistic. You fail to take into account the thousands if not millions who do not have access to the internet, let alone a computer. As well, no matter how much participation you obtain, there are still people that will be apathetic, spoiling this entire plan.

Re: Canadians, do your part to combat rising gas price
I would like to add something totally different to this topic. I do agree 100% that we need to stop buying gas from huge corporations such as Petro and Shell. I have not bought gas especially from Petro for almost a year and the reason for this is because Petro has allowed one family I know personally suffer great pain. The spill of Petro's gas under this family's home, and their careless attitude to that situation has resulted in the family getting cancer. Petro refuses to take any responsibility and they are the only gas company close to this home, so their argument that it's not their gas or fault is invalid. Yes, gas controls our money, but in situations like this it also controls our health. Even our government is allowing these individuals to die because they refuse to step in and help out the situation. A similar situation to this is also occurring where a family is about to lose their buisness because Petro refuses to clean up their own gas spill. This family has been suffereing for seven months in an unhealthy environment full of gas fumes, and nobody is taking responisbility or action. So there you go. This is the company we all support...one that will harm people even when we give them our money.
