    BMW-Williams Drivers Next Year?

Any ideas who Williams will pick for drivers with Juan going to Mercedes, and Ralph possibly going to Toyota? Dixon from Champ Cars had a good test, but who else is out there that will help Williams contend for a championship "right away"? All the young guys that have tested have great future potential, but how long will it take them to be able to contend, and how many cars will they put into a wall, or in a ditch until they are really ready to go? The Williams and BMW companies have come too far, and are too close to a championship, to now rely on rookie drivers. Your thoughts ....?

    Gene/Pizzonia

    Why not???
They have tested the FW25/FW26 and Gene did well last year at MONZA when he replaced Ralph.
Test drivers should be given a serious look.
Dixon, I duunno if his experience translates well into Formula One
Michael Andretti and Alex Zanardi didn't make the trnsition, but JPM did.
I guess will have to wait and see.....

    Ralph/Trulli or Webber . . .

. . . depending on how whether Webber or Trulli at Renault makes more money for their manager Briatori. Ralph will whine and then take a pay cut 'cause he has no leverage.

    Ralph\'s problem is eyesight

I don't mean to be critical of Ralph, but let's remember....
    -Wears special eyeglasses
-Drove an M5 pretty hot off an exit ramp in Munich last year
-Malaysia Grand Prix drove a 7 series into a chain link fence

Ralph has some serious vision problems, and is more of a liability at this stage rather than an asset to the team.

    Re: BMW-Williams Drivers Next Year?

Today I heard Mark Webber's name again, and Jenson Button's name resurfaced again as well. With Ralph's eyesight concern, is he as good as he's ever going to get, and is now taking the slow elevator ride down? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

    Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart!

Hey they have open wheel experience and they are AMERICANS! Where are American drivers in Formula One? Watching Steve McQueen drive a Porshe in the Lemans DVD this weekend made me feel patriotic. Bring on the Yanks.

    Any Talk of Villeneuve?

I think it would be great if Jacques went back to williams, he is the only other world champion out there still racing, err was racing.
I think he'd even take the pay cut to make it happen.

I think if Dixon has another good test...

He'll be one of the drivers. It's hard to imagine that they would go into 2005 with two inexperienced drivers. If Webber is not available or someone else with experience, the solution may be Jacques Villenueve. This week Heinz-Harald Frentzen has been talking up Nick Heidfeld for the spot. Nick has really been forgotten after running with Sauber for too long. Another thought, has Kimi signed anything with McLaren? This year is going so bad for him, he might consider a move to Williams.2002 AW/IR M3/SMG

Is that so? What pace was he off?

I suggest you might check out some of the news regarding Dixon's test. He was less that half a second off Ralf's pace in a car he'd never been in before. The team was very happy with him. If'd you like to see one article on this topic I've included a link to an article from the Speed Channel. There's another one there from earlier in the day you might look for.

i dont want villeneuve to race in f1 again.

i think he is a good driver who can win again, but i have a bad feeling about him returning. sort of like mark donohue returning to racing after retiring and then passing on.

it's a demo. so guess what the details are.

my opinions on drivers for next year.

let's not forget that he won and still drives for toyota in irl. that is how da matta got a seat at toyota. he raced for them in cart and then moved over. i think da matta needs to shape up or he could be relegated down to another team, test driver role or completely out of f1. toyota seems to like panis.

moving on to williams. i think webber would be great for williams. if williams could get him into their car and they could increase the performance of the car a bit and get it a bit closer to ferrari, then webber is almost guaranteed a victory in my mind. i think that webber is the 2nd best driver in f1 to schumi. but, webber is managed by flavio briatore who runs renault. trulli is not signed to renault for 2005, so if any move is made from jaguar then it will probably be to renault. renault has a great car withgreat potential in the couple of years and webber and alonso could bring a championship to the team. maybe not a driver's championship yet, but definitely a constructors championship.

i think that if r schumacher leaves williams in 2005, then williams will bring up one of its test drivers. gene used to race in f1 and pizzonia has 11 races under his belt but was sent back to williams after performing poorly and being replaced by wilson last year. pizzonia is very quick during testing and i think he feels more at home at williams. we shall see with them. i could see heidfeld moving to williams or even fisichella. i think either of them would do very well there. heidfeld tested for mclaren and expected to drive for mclaren when hakkinen retired but was pushed aside by kimi.

button would prob have moved back to williams b4 this year, but after seeing the performance of b.a.r. i don't think he will want to move yet. i have a theory that button is trying to do to b.a.r. what schumacher did for ferrari back in the late 90's: get them to the top of the podium by guiding the team. schumacher basically attracted the best in f1 and was able to bring ferrari back to its glory days with the help of todt and brawn. button might want to do the same thing b/c of the satisfaction that comes with doing something like that.

i almost forgot about coulthard. he is gone from mclaren next year and could move to a number of teams including williams. dont forget that is where coulthard started in f1. he could also move to a number of dif't teams but he wont really downgrade to a team like sauber or jordan, he would probably retire if it came to that. fortunately, for coulthard he has enough money that he will never have to race ever again and will probably not move to alms or something of the sort. i would love to see coulthard move to american in irl or owrs.

btw, i think montoya wants to commit suicide at this point b/c of his future move to mclaren. this is getting ridiculous with the engine failures. so far for kimi, he has had 4 engine failures in 3 races. i would be having a nice, calm talk with everybody on the team right about now if i were him.(hehe, i dont know about my talk being nice or calm though)

i think that williams will have to wait on other people's decision before deciding on their own driver lineup for next year. but it should be very interesting. there will be a lot more movement this coming year i think than in the past.

it's a demo. so guess what the details are.

    Isn\'t Button under contract still?

Button would be pretty good. Can't believe they'll let Montoya go.

button is actually under contract with williams

still i believe. he started f1 as the youngest driver in history in f1 for williams and then got moved around. he went to benetton on contract and got moved around. finally ended up at b.a.r. last year. but i was under the info that he was "lent" to the other teams. williams wanted him to become experienced. although, he spent wayyy toooo long out of the team to return now after the performance of b.a.r. compared to williams.

it's a demo. so guess what the details are.
