Speed World Challenge is a joke...

    http://www.world-challenge.com/news/04press61.html

I said right after the Sebring race that they would apply restrictions to the CTS-Vs after their strong one-two finish---and they sure did. Cadillac is going to be furious! They have spent a lot of money developing the race car and it will all be destroyed by the un-professional race organizers. Of course, Cadillac should have learned from PTG's experiences last year with the restrictions that were imposed upon them. SWC is not the series for heavily funded professional race teams. Cadillac will learn of this, just as PTG did.

The organizers of this series show that they have absolutely no understanding of natural variation or the variation inherent in racing. They fail to grasp that at certain tracks, certain teams find the ideal setup and subsequently do well, while other times they’re off the mark and don’t do as well. They over compensate for things and add more variation to the "system."

In short, I won't be wasting my time watching these races or paying to go to them, as I did last season. The results of the races have little to do with each team's specific skills, talents or preparation and more to do with the behind-the-scenes politics.

    There is a difference....(much more)

This is not the same thing that happened to PTG. I agree that a lot of what happened to PTG was rather sketchy. They seemed to penalize Auberlen, Mark, Said, and Stuck for their driving talent. Case and point-> the BMW's just received the OK to use the 3.4 L motor (as opposed to the previous 3.2L). That was a joke, how can you penalize some of the best current road racers just cus they have talent.

The thing that differs this situation is that the CTS-Vs appeared to not even be trying. The commentators (from what I hear since I dont have SPEED at school) themselves were commenting on it. Going 2:12s or whatever they were doing coming up from the back of the pack- they clearly had more left. Another thing that changed with SCCA this year is the fact that SCCA now checks the car data rather regularly. SCCA can see if the caddy's are full throttle or not. No one can ever say that PTG wasnt beating the hell out of those cars. If you go to the SCCA Pro bulletin board you will find that this is what Fans, Drivers, Crew alike all felt needed to happen. Will CTS-V fans be upset, most definately but the car was in a whole different field.

On that note, being a crew member on a TC BMW team I still think that SCCA has one of the best series in the World and that this is no reason to stop watching...but I guess that decision is up to you.

    Your kidding right???

That car is so far off base the only way they can get it even close to being even with all the other cars that actually bear some resemblance to their street counterparts is to change alot of stuff. The car is a sham.

I cant believe you can even be surprised by this.

The car bears no relationship to its roadgoing counterpart.
Its a joke,,, they basically threw the finger to any close resemblance of the road car figuring SCCA would let them get away with it.

And before "Rick" pipes in with another baseless M3 GTR comment,,, the last time I looked the M3 GTR did not race in this series so bag the M3 GTR comments.
The PTG M3s WERE as close as anyone elses efforts to the parent road car and SCCA drove them right out of the series with penalties.

    Get your race series right.

Get off the M3 GTR thing man.
    Your talking the wrong series.

That Cad is just wrong,,, and SCCA just finally pulled their heads out of the sand and fessed up they screwed up and let those guys run amock.

The M3 GTR had a V-8 which wasn't road based until they made five or so of them for the AMLS or whatever series it was.

Re: Get your race series right.

If BMW wanted to win so badly with the E46 M3, why didn't they make it lighter and/or add a V-8?

We are talking about SCCA World Challenge...

Please explain what the M3 GTR which never raced in SWC has to do with the discussion.

NASCAR has more fans than any other type

of racing. I don't know why SWC has more fans than Grand Am.

Re: Get your race series right.

BMW did offer a V8 M car, but it was the M5 not the M3. BMW is not going to adjust their production requirements for their real business just to win the SCCA SWC. They run with what they have, and I think they proved that what they have is very good. And it certainly is not all about power. The SCCA just proved that if you are producing too much power, they will restrict you. They just required a restrictor plate for the Caddies to bring them in line with the other cars. If BMW offered a V8 M3, it would be a heavier car making it harder to tune the suspension, and the SCCA would have just mandated a restrictor plate for it anyway making it probably less competitive than the big 6 M3.<html>

Does the France family (NASCAR) own Grand Am?

If so how long have they "owned" it?

    Yes...for a while...how long i am not sure -->

Many GA fans will deny or try to say they arent owned by the family but the ISC (International Speedway Corp.- owned by the France fam) and NASCAR and GA all are located in the same office building.
