Last weekend family fished at Donner Lake and
They fished from the boat, though, but caught their limits.

Fishing, did someone say fishing and driving?
Oh yeah, cruise up Hwy 88 and you will see 2 of the most beautiful "accessible" lakes in California, Silver & Caples.
I prefer to fish Silver myself, but have done well at Caples too.
This is the way I go to Tahoe every time, Hwy 88 has awesome scenery and NO frickin' buses like 50!
I grew up in Galt, but now I live in Pleasanton/Bay Area, so I know all the fishin' spots all over the Central Valley and the mountain's East of SacTown.
Try 88, you won't be disappointed.

I have a friend who does very well at Caples
I sort of gave up fishing a long time ago. I worked in the fish industry for 10 years and saw too much of the slimey water dogs. I have to start up again, my kids want to try thier hand at it.

Good fishing places in Fresno...
I'm not familiar with fishing in Sacramento. In fact, I don't fish. My dad is retiring, and he wants to pick it up as a hobby, so I might join him then.
If you're willing to drive to Fresno, there's a good lake for fishing...Millerton Lake, which is about 35 minutes from Fresno, and the drive is fun. If you're ever in the area, check it out.

Caples lake is on 89 I think. B12 explanation (m)
It is a 740i modified by Alpina with new engine, suspension and cosmetics. They are not available here and there are few of them around. Google Alpina B12 and see. There is also others based on the 5 series and maybe a 3. Sorry for the late reply. I lurk elsewhere a lot. 11 sites and counting.
