Interesting question since the CSL also
have more and slightly different tuned performance controls like the M track mode built into the DME software. The 134 pin interface is probably the same and a lot of the communication is via the CAN-bus so why not if you also install the CSL temp sensor in the new airbox.

? CSL-variant in 06 to keep interest hi before
Ok so the CSL stopped production right? Even when it was in production, parts were rare because presumably production was limited.
So what if BMW were to have invested in new infrastructure to enable a end-of-model e46m3 CSL or CSL-variant to keep sales up & prevent flagging sales in anticipation of the e90 V8? This rationale has been certainly used by other manufacturers.
The use of the CSL-DME in non-CSL m3's would be consistent with this idea. Otherwise, why invest in improving the DME capacity and processor if the HP were to be 333 hp till the e90 V8 appears? Hence, i'd predict that at the very least, a small HP bump might appear by the last M3 model yr, be it 05 or more likely 06.
wishful thinking admittedly...

No sense in manufacturing two DMEs
with different speed and memory capacity so it's probably just common sense to use the latest DME of this MSS54 family. Including this HP version there have been 8 different hardware versions of the MSS54 since the start in the E46 M3.
Whre is the E46 M3 EVO...? :-)
