This might help you..
So you are spending time in the Connecticut Valley huh? I guess nobody has ever been there. Is that in the midwest?
I spent about 30 seconds Googling "Independant BMW" and found
The Association of Independent BMW Service Professionals in the Connecticut Valley Locator
I hope this website is reasonably close to something that may lead you in the right direction in your untiring quest to find an independent BMW repairshop. Thanks for the opportunity to be of service.

EXCELLENT shop--LandShark Auto in Natick
Not close by, but an EXCELLENT SHOP is LandShark Auto in Natick, MA. They specialize in BMW, have full computer diagnostics, claim to be able to do anything the dealer can--only cheaper.
I've found them to be extremely helpful in diagnosing, repairing, and resetting airbag/ABS and other indicators.
They've had some major repairs in and out in 24 hours, and they cost far less than the dealers I've worked with.
