524td turbo transplant for an M20 - any info??

I believe I've seen this topic before, but couldn't find anything in the archives.

I have access to a complete 524td turbo setup and was under the impression that it was a fairly clean bolt on for an M20 gas motor.

Exhaust ports look similar. Turbo looks a little small, but sure would spin up fast ;-). Exhaust piping is big bore. For a low buck improvement, it looks doable.

Any experiences, advice, prior threads?

a T3/T4 Hybrid "Garrett" Turbo. I'm relocating the oil cooler to get some space for the intercooler, and hope to complete by end of July. only parts pending to buy are the gauges, the 3" catalitic, and some miscelaneous flexible lines.

1. How did you route the turbo outlet to the intake manifold (make a dummy throttle body?

2. Where did you plumb the oil supply for the turbo? Did you ust the stock 524 oil filter block?

3. Where did you send the return oil from the turbo?

1. How did you route the turbo outlet to the intake manifold (make a dummy throttle body? I'm using a 524 turbo diesel manifold, and it came with the base, inclusively with the waste gate port.

2. Where did you plumb the oil supply for the turbo? Did you ust the stock 524 oil filter block? No, I just add a "T' in the oil pressure fitting of the oil pump.

3. Where did you send the return oil from the turbo? Back to the oil pan. I remove the oil pan and installed a fitting for this.

Trust me, the systes as is works great, I'm just in the exhaust piping work, and must be completed by end of july. My friend has one working with the same modifications, and it runs smoothly and extremely fast.

Where did you run the injectors? The 524td intake has no injector ports.

upgrade does not affect the injectors, by now.

...this is an m20 motor. What I was trying to get at is this - did you use the stock intake manifold form your m20 motor and just run a dummy throttle body?

manifold. It is required some porting and align 4 of the bolts of the manifold, to fit in the E30 cylinder Head. I'm using an hybrid T3/T4 Garrett Turbo, and will use the same AFM, by now. Next year I will remove it and a new management system will be installed, which requires no AFM.

I'm only waiting to get my manifold, which is in the ceramic coating process, to start the installation. The intercooler was already installed, and I hpe to complete on August.

Did you use the same injector angle that the M20 stock intake does? Did you have to port the 524td intake? Cross section of the 524td intake ports is much smaller than my eta head.

to port the intakes, and drill new holes for the bolts located in the bottom. Rememeber that the turbo will be located on the top side.
