    Cadillac concept cars

Some Cadillac concept cars seem to influence future prodution cars in some ways.

Take a look at the 1953 Cadillac Le Mans and the 1953 Cadillac Orléans concept cars. The Le Mans concept was made for the 24-hour race in France in which Cadillac competed in 1950.

The 1999 Cadillac Evoq concept predated the 2003 Cadillac XLR.

Hmm...I wonder if the Cadillac Sixteen will make it into production! :)

The most exotic Cadillac V16 ever built

    http://www.car-nection.com/yann/Dbas_txt/16hrtm.htm

It is a 1937 Cadillac two-door convertible, body by Hartmann.

    from http://www.blackhawkauto.org/collectf.html

The last year for Cadillac’s 452 cubic inch V-16 engine was 1937 and only fifty units were manufactured; Cadillac introduced a redesigned and less expensive V-16 in 1938.

Cadillac released only two V-16 chassis to independent coachbuilders in 1937. One was sold to Philippe Barraud, a wealthy young playboy living along the fashionable Swiss Riviera, which stretched between Lausanne and Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Barraud commissioned Willy Hartmann, a body shop owner in Lausanne, “to create a look similar to a Figoni et Falaschi-designed car” on this huge chassis.

Basic stock Cadillac components were used on this streamlined hand-formed fantasy, which is one of the largest cabriolets ever built. Initially there was some doubt whether it could be registered in Switzerland as a private car due to the 22-foot overall length.

Barraud drove his car to all the fashionable haunts where it caused a sensation — as it continues to do today.

    A tragic V16 at 112 mph

Gus Bell drove a Cadillac V16 Roadster prototype at the GM proving ground in Milford, Michigan on July 15, 1930. He was going 112 mph before he crashed and died.

    More classic Cadillacs

    from automobilemag.com

    1933 Cadillac Aerodynamic Coupe

Earl created the Aerodynamic Coupe for the 1933 Chicago Century of Progress. With its 165-horsepower V-16 and slippery good looks, Earl's creation proved a tremendous hit with showgoers—so popular, in fact, that coachbuilder Fleetwood offered the car in limited production (twenty were built).

    1953 Cadillac Eldorado

Perhaps the seminal Cadillac design of the era, the '53 Eldorado, which was unveiled at that year's Motorama, carried an astronomical $7750 sticker price. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that a mere 532 were built.

    1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham

The last of the hand-built Cadillacs, the '57 Eldo Brougham boasted a gorgeous B-pillarless four-door body, a brushed stainless steel roof, forged aluminum wheels, a unique air suspension, and every imaginable comfort and convenience feature, including such niceties as power windows, air conditioning, and a perfume dispenser. It cost a
whopping $13,074; production amounted to 400 cars.

$10 million offered for Cadillac Sixteen

The following is from autoweek.com in December of last year.

"Last year, when General Motors showed its Cadillac Sixteen concept luxury sedan at the Dubai show in the United Arab Emirates, Kempston Darkes, GM's vice president for Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, was approached by a wealthy sheik who offered $10 million for the car.

"I cried when I couldn't sell it," she says. "Although the thought did cross my mind that maybe we could build a very limited number."

Whether concept or reality, Cadillac is drawing plenty of attention in the Middle East. Kempston Darkes says Cadillac's role as a global player will continue to rise as GM pushes into more countries. GM will sell more. It will add more exclusive dealerships.

She says Cadillac dealers in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will spend $35 million over the next few years for about 10 luxury channel showrooms. Hummer and Saab will be included in those franchises.

Kempston Darkes expects Cadillac sales in the region to nearly double - from 2,500 units this year to as many as 4,000 - as GM brings up the network.

"If it's a global brand, you truly need to sell it around the world," Kempston Darkes says. "And I expect Cadillac to play a significant role going forward in the luxury brand business that is done in the Middle East."

She adds: "The product range we now have for Cadillac tells you we can compete very well in luxury brands."

Kempston Darkes says Cadillac's presence in the Middle East will help the brand image as a whole.

"When you say you are a global brand, then I always think it helps the business case because you build (in North America) and you sell around the world," she says. "It gives an element of prestige to the brand, and it shows the viability as a luxury brand competing with the best in the world."
