Re: window regulator class-action?
I paid about $250 to get my passenger side window fixed about a month ago. Today, my driver's side one went failed when I was going to work. I took a chance and parked in the parking garage with my window down all day. I just dropped my X off at the dealer today.
I will call BMWNA tomorrow.

Re: window regulator class-action?
My son had a VW Beetle with regulator problems -- after some time VW sent us a check for the repairs and agreed to cover them for an extended period of time(can't remember how long as he now has an Infinity G 35 6 speed) -- got sick of German electrical problems. My X hasn't had any reg problems yet -- 38,000 miles!!!!

is it possible to reinforce the part
that breaks? I know it's an interim solution, but if you can do something to prevent future breakage, it will save you trips to the dealer, the cost and hassle of future replacement and the fear from having a regulator fail in the rain/cold or in a parking lot while you continue to apply pressure to BMW for extended warranty/redesign.

I think you should shut up
We paid more than 50k for this vehicle and we would like it to preform like a 50k. I generally never prefer BMW cars because of the window issue. I knew it way before I decide to buy this. However, it turns that x5 really suits my taste, so I forgone any problem with it and buy it. A problem is a problem, sue them for their low quality product on a high end luxery vehicle is reasonable. We are not talking about sueing them because their soft drinks at the dealer make our kid fat.

BTW, stealer quoted $620 for e38 RR regulator
a few months back, here in Ann Arbor, MI, so it seems that perhaps labor is a little more involved when replacing a rear window regulator in an e38 (7 series, 1995-2001).
Also, part cost for my e38 right-rear regulator thru Crevier was $180 plus shipping; and it took me a few hours to carefully complete the R&R.
LOL with your call for a class action, as I think my driver's side regulator is on its last legs....

can someone provide a picture of the broken part?
I think reinforcement of the fragile area is a valid interim option. A small time investment will save many future hassles and money.

Re: window regulator class-action?
I am battling the dealer now. BMW makes a nice car but they certainly do not stand behind their product. The dealer is more than happy to service your car and charge you lots of $$. (Does anyone know that the service advisors are on commission??!!) The real dissappointment comes when you paid huge $$ for the service and it is not done right the first time!
But when it comes to something like this, they refuse to help. It is apparent to me that this is not an isolated issue, but a very common problem and BMW should step up. WAKE UP BMW! Lexus and GM set the standard for quality service. BMW does not seem to care unless you pay them. Class action - YES! Otherwise BMW will not risk a recall and damaged reputation.

Re: window regulator class-action?
I am sick of BMW and their money grubbing style of customer service. They will not admit fault or back their product under goodwill if you are outside of the warrenty. They are happy to take your money, and in return you typically get crappy service. Nice car, but they don't back you when their product fails. And it does fail. Very expensive car to maintain.
I have a 2001 X5 4.4 and would have been happier keeping my Lexus. BMW needs to learn from GM and Lexus what customer service means.
BMWNA is as much of a waste of time as working with the (sales commission) service advisor.
My second window reg failure and counting....
