MSD BTM Help
Hi,
I'm trying to install an MSD BTM on my boosted '84 318i... here's the way I have it hooked up:
- white wire from BTM to signal wire from ignition module
- orange wire from BTM to coil - (replaces signal wire from ign. mod)
- red wire from BTM to coil +
- black wire from BTM to ground
Car will not run with this hook-up... ignition pulse is present when checking at coil -.

Re: MSD BTM Help
Hi just installed a twin MSD 6 BTM systems on my Twin turbo 850i and ran into the same issues as you. More than likely you need MSD part # 8910, tach adapter. This amplifies the ignition signal so that it becomes usable by the motronics unit again otherwise the MSD 6 BTM pulls down the signal to the point that the engine mgmt system cannot detect it. A addtional things, the white wire is the correct wire to use for the trigger and should be connected to the original negative coil wire, the red wire goes to the orginal coil positive wire. Orange wire goes to ignition coil positive and black wire goes to ignition coil negative. I hope this helps/97 540i sport 6 speed

You guys were right....
MSD Tach adaptor #8910 needed to be spliced in before the BTM so that the stock ECU & Ignition module get a good coil signal.
BTM works great, I can feel the timing being changed if I turn the dial from 3 to 0 while at a steady 5psi boost.
Just have to build my MegaSquirt and get larger injectors so that I can crank up the boost.
Thanks again!
