Re: Montoya is a menace,,, large balls,,, small brain
Maybe, but maybe that is what it takes to drive a car that fast in the first place.
If you are referring to the attempted pass yesterday that bounced Truli, well yeah, that was kinda stupid. But Truli was slowing him up and not checking his mirrors. I am not saying that it was Truli's fault, and it is unfortunate that he took the worst of it, but it was just one of those racing things.<html>

Those types of passes require cooperation from...
...both drivers. Michael is a very smart driver that ALWAYS drives while looking @ the big picture. He sensed JPM next to him midway through the chicane and let him take the pass (had he driven the chicane normally and gone for the second apex, they'd have collided costing them both points). Trulli knew JPM was there (afterall, they did make contact going IN to the chicane) and decided to close the door. Why, I'm not sure. I probably would have done the same and DNFed with JPM.
That's why Michael keeps winning championships. Is Michael afraid of Montoya? Yes and no. He's constantly fearing that Montoya will cost him points through making contact...I wouldn't say Montoya has bigger ********s, anyone in those cars has lots of courage. I enjoy watching JPM drive/pass because I don't fall asleep (I normally do whilst watching F1, it's not exciting racing for me). To be honest though, I wouldn't have him on my team - he'd cost the team too much running into cars (and cameras ;-).
Good drive @ SPA, Kimi. Most impressive was Rubens though.
Cheers,
Terry

Re: Those types of passes require cooperation from...
Good summation. He can be aggressive, but it seems to me he is maturing a bit and choosing most of his battles a bit more carefully. I think his pass was a bit optomistic, both times. He got away with one, but trying it twice in one race was probably pushing it a bit. But, what do I know, I am an armchair driver at best.<html>

I think the opposite... too talented so he ends up
with his "ego writing checks his body can't cash" :-)
He's enormously talented and willing to take chances most wouldn't. I like it as a fan since it makes the races worth watching.
MS on the other hand would rather cruise to 2nd place without having to pass anybody, except attempted chops at the starting line. He's enormously talented also, but not too interesting to watch.

unfortunately . . .
. . . the passing window is so small in F1 that one can argue that ANY pass not "allowed" by the lead car is too risky. Thus, we have drivers like Ralph and Trulli, who almost never pass, and Ferrari running a 4-stop strategy just so MS doen't have to pass Alonso on the track.
One of the things I like about JPM is that he doesn't play the risk-mitigation game that so ofen makes F1 such a PONC (parade of noisy cars). If somebody thinks that makes JPM stupid, well, I sentence them to watching an F1 video "Passing highlights from the Hungarian GP's." Don't worry, it's very short.

Ok so,,, would YOU want to share a track with him?
They guy is WAY too unpredictable.
Banzai passes make good TV,,, ummm yeah,,, like NASCAR, Springer & WWF does...
The guy just doesn't think.
Who in their right mind would have thought that pass would work?
He didnt "have" the corner,,, by anyones definition.
He stuffed his car in there because he thought (term used loosely) he could jam his way through (balls too large, brain too small). He may need his eyes or depth perception checked.
I could not believe my eyes that he was going there.
I just wished he would have come up on the very short end of it.
Its not even the first time he has pulled crap like that.
I'd bet Michael is scared of him,,, I know I would be if I wanted to finish.
Anyone who has points on the line and is near him on track SHOULD be scared of him.
The guy is a rolling liability.
A crash looking for someone to inflict itself upon.
How many times has JPM contacted Schumacher (or anyone else for that matter including his own team mate) over the past few years???
More than my nerves can stand for sure.... I dont even think he's exciting in a "Mr Excitement" Jimmy Spencer I can roll my car 20 times and slide into the pits on my roof way,,, hes just downright scary (not optimistic,,, scary).
I really wish he was out of F1,,, too much liability and carnage with him around.
The guy is a loose cannon, not exciting,,, dangerous.
It will be amazing if he gets through his F1 career without killing or injuring someone.

Re: Ok so,,, would YOU want to share a track with him?
Oh, come-on. It's not that bad. I think you have selective memory too. Sure JP makes some bad decisions, but I think it is more indicative of the courses, cars, rules, and Ferraristone dominance than anything else. Lets look at Sato, he has made many "Banzai" passes during this season, just not lately because he has had lousy cars. Oh, and we won't even mention Rubens Barrichello's pass on the last corner of the Hungarian GP to take second over Alonso. If Alonso had not stopped his turn-in, Rubens would have taken them both out. Alonso did open the door, but he could have shut it just as quick. The point is that a faster car should be able to overtake a slower car. The way F1 works, if your car is faster through the corners, but is being held up by a slower car, and if the cars have similar power, then you are not going to be able to pass unless the driver in front makes a mistake AND gives you room afterwards, or you just dive in and hope they give you room. It does rely on the other guy to give you racing room, it always does. Even if the car you are passing is a back marker, they have to give you room. If you are fighting for position, and another car gets along side of you, would you give them room or chop on them? I would give them room, just like MS did, because I don't want to take myself out. Plus, if JP could get up along side of me in that corner using a line way off the normal racing line, then chances are he has a better car, at the moment anyway. I would shoot to get him later in the race. This is where the MS experience shows, 1) he knows he is going to clinch if he just stays on the podium, 2) he knows his car will get better over time where JP will get worse.<html>

Um... the carnage is from the FIA, not JPM...
If they had something a little better than push brooms to clean the track then I think there would be significantly less carnage. Ask Ralf.

You must enjoy watching trains pass by
You must enjoy watching trains pass by because that is what F1 is without guys like Montoya trying to actually move up to win a race.
Menace??? He isn't Saddam Hussein.

Maybe F1 should make a rule requiring. . . .
Maybe F1 should make a rule requiring the slower car to move over and allow the faster car by??? Good grief -- THEY ARE RACING!!! Not following each other around a twisty course. If you want parade laps, watch the wramup lap then shut off the TV.
