    ...and more mechanical loses

    Example:

The horsepower that one might gain say going from an 8 psi Non-IC set-up to a 9 psi IC set-up is offset by the naturally occuring thermodynamic loses. However, the PLUS is as you said, less chance of detonation and lower temperatures.

And higher air air/fuel density. Plus, a properly

sized intercooler will allow for significant increase in boost, generally, not just a pound or two.

and that's exactly one of my points (m)

If you install an IC, you want more than 1 or 2 psi boost. Otherwise, it's a waste of time and $$$.

Agreed..This is the information I got from ESS

They have a 540 non intercooled SC kit with 7 psi boost giving 404HP and a 9 psi IC version that gives 437HP. I guess they sided with safety on this.

    Re: 9 with Intercooler AFAIK

If you live in a hot climate area I would recommend an IC. Here in the California Valley summer temps are easily 90-105 degrees. During these times I definately suffer from heat soak and the loss of power is significant. An IC would more than likely rid me of those power loses and at least keep my power consistent during the hot months. Just my $0.02.
