I am getting worried about the WRC

I am so bummed; if Ford is pulling out of the WRC, this leaves Markko and Duval without rides next year.

I think Duval will be able to hook up with Citroen if Carlos retires, and maybe Markko could be the second driver at Peugeot.

If Ford really pulls out all together, then that only leaves: Citroen, Peugeot and Subaru as full time contesters of the WRC with Mitsubishi and Skoda (VW/Audi) in development with their latest versions.

The FIA with all their wisdom is trying to kill a from of motorsport that truely tests man and machine in all elements.

Re: I am getting worried about the WRC

So if Ford is pulling out, why is it that the FIA is killing the sport? I am not trying to be a jerk here, I just don't understand how the two go together.
WRC is huge in every country except the US. Ford pulling out sucks, but I don't see how that will kill the series. There is just too much interest in it.<html>

    WRC will survive without Ford.

What bothers me is the shortened and more congested format causing stage closure due to the fact that the crowds cannot be accomodated.

Rallying should be more spread out with longer stages and another day's competitiion.

The cars are also ridiculous, with none of them now resembling anything in the showroom. I have been lucky enough to own several homologation specials over the years, but will never be able to purchase anything like the currnet Citroen,Peugeot, Ford and the like.

Returning to the old homologation rules requiring 5000 examples to be built for Group A and limiting modification although not popular with manufacturers other than Mitsubishi and Subaru would be an improvement and widen participation.

Allowing more cars to compete would also give the fans a reason to stay put on one of their favourite stages rather than moving en-mass to the next venue and causing congestion.

Longer stages with more cars competing is the way forward as far as I am concerned. David Richards has a lot to answer for.

I enjoy rally and hate to see it becoming F1 on roads, with just a few elite players at the top. It was always great to see just how a privateer could stack up to the factory boys, but that is nearly impossible now.
