    Ipod and M Coupe

I recently bought an iPod; I know that the newer BMWs facilitate integration with an iPod, but my '99 Coupe does not. Has anyone found a decent way to integrate an iPod with an older BMW (stock stereo head unit)?

    Thanks,
    Brian

Denison IceLink seems to be getting good reviews

I'm in the same boat. I want to keep my factory head unit.

Do a search on the "IceLink" for a little more info.

I've decided to wait another 6 months. I think we're just now seeing the "take off" of iPod connectivity to slightly older head units in cars. My guess is it's gonna boom a little bit more.. commin' up soon here.

    Racing seats for MCoupe

Is there a particular racing seat that fits in the MCoupe's
tight confines better than others? The leather stock seats are pretty
but slippery and my knees should not be bracing my body.

A less expensive alternative is to

get this adapter & hook it up with your CD Changer Aux output & snake an RCA line thru the tunnel up by the handbrake.

    Viola,
    iPod your BMW!

One minute drawback is you have to to your song changing on the iPod unlike the Icelink.

I think there is a better way

The new '05 MINI in dash cd head unit (standard equipment) plays MP3 CD's plus will have an official adapter. When I get mine in the next month I'm going to check the amp as it looks IDENTICAL to the E36/ M coupe/ M roadster amp. Since I still have my old HK unit it should be interesting.

I'm just guessing here that it would be a simple swap to install the MINI HU in the coupes. Good thing is that is a normal single DIN without the console covering that is found in most new BMW's.

Advantage here is that you might get identical amber lighting, full compatibility with the stock amp, in dash MP3 CD capabilities really cheap compared to Z3 in dash CD units, and of course the ability to use the BMW/ Mini adapter.

    Another alternative

I didn't want to spend the time figuring out how to "properly" integrate mine with my factory head unit as others are. Instead I spent $40 on a Griffin Technology (www.griffintechnology.com) Itrip which plugs into my Ipod mini and broadcasts everything over any FM station I choose.

It doesn't always offer perfect sound quality but I'm finding that it sounds great 95% of the time...sort of like our factory stereos..;)

It's also nice being able to use the Ipod in any of our cars without worrying about any wiring. I'm even using it in the house with my home stereo. Overall, very happy with my $40 investment.

    Re: Ipod and M Coupe

I don't know if I get some kind of award (or maybe penalty) for responding to a 6 year old post, but I want to take another run at putting an iPod interface in my '02 M-Coupe. I bought a Neo iOn-1 adapter some years back, but the connectors didn't match and mp3yourcar.com couldn't help.

Can anyone recommend a solution that works? The CD changer compartment holds two cables: a 4 pin and a 6 pin.

    Thanks!

Oops, make that 3 pin, not 4.

I suppose the other option would be an adapter that connects to the radio itself.

    Re: Ipod and M Coupe

I have used two different devices that replace the BMW CD changer with the connections you have pictured. One is the Dice Silverline and the other is the Intravee II. The DICE is readily available in the US and works well. The Intravee AFAIK no longer has a North American distributor, so you would have to order it from the UK, along with an Alpine KCA-420i. The Intravee essentially is a converter between the Alpine Ai-Net and the BMW IBus. This allows the Intravee to attach a number of Alpine devices such as HD and Satellite radios, Alpine CD changers and the like and use the Alpine menu system. The menu system on a BMW with NAV is much nicer than the Dice, but that benefit is moot for Z3s. It is significantly more expensive than the DICE on top of being more difficult to locate.

I used a unit from Grom Audio. It works well except I had to use a noise filter ($5) to get rid of alternator whine.
