Congrats!!
So, with your new license,(assuming you are young new driver) you're getting a X5? Wow...all I could muster when I got my license was $300 and that went to a 1972 Pontiac Catalina Station Wagon. I recall I had to be real careful not to waste anymore money on gas as I couldn't afford the gas. JB weld helped me with a costly waterpump housing repair (saved me $30 I remembered) and self serve junk yards helped me keep the rest of the "boat" running. I guess I'm envious..in a very nice way.

Thanks!
For my first car, my parents wanted to get me something safe. I had my heart set on a 2001-ish Audi TT coupe, but about a year ago I was in a semi-serious car accident, and I still have back and neck problems from it. I wanted something big and safe, but still sporty. I thought about a used 330xi, but I live on a hill and with the snowfall we get, it didnt seem as practical. Also, I needed room for all my skis and things (I am a ski racer for my high school), so an X5 it is. Luckily, my parents are very very good to me, so I have a 2002 X5 4.4i. I hope they dont make me pay for my own gas... I will go broke!

Assuming you're a young driver - just a few words
of advice... I've been in a gazillion car accidents and luckily came out unscathed each time. I've had 10+ accidents when I was a kid and I can honestly say the main culprit was not paying enough attention and not being as careful as I should be. That was almost 30 years ago and I don't get into accidents any more (knock on wood - it's been about 20 years now). I've found the X5 can be a very distracting car to drive, especially if it has a nav. There are just so many things to play with. For your own well being and also the well being of other drivers on the road, make it point to consciously PAY ATTENTION to your driving and always check twice for others who are not paying attention. This is especially important when you have your buddies riding along with you. Remember that driving is a privilege and not a right - the boys in blue are much less forgiving these days and it doesn't take much at all to lose your precious license. The X5 is a great choice from a safety standpoint, but its weight and solid build can be devastating to other cars that have the misfortune of coming in contact with it. Bear in mind this advice is coming from one of the most immature 43 year olds I know, but when it comes to driving, my past experiences have matured me tremendously. I love my X, my license, and people in general and I don't want to jeopardize any of those. And yes, I'm jealous too - my first car was a free 1972 Mercury Capri. It came complete with dents and I just added a few more. Sorry for the speech - I just wanted to give you some friendly advice that someday may help you to enjoy your license and your vehicle(s) for a long time to come. Congrats, have fun, and be safe!!!
