Guys: here's the reasons
1) It's been a rule since day 1 that nudity isn't allowed on the message boards. Some has slid by, but when people start complaining to us about the nudity on the boards, we have to remove it.
2) Minors view this board. It's illegal to "distribute" porn to minors. When you post nude images to a board that isn't access controlled, you can be distributing porn to minors. We had complaints from parents whose kids were viewing porn on the boards.
3) Copyrights. Unless you're the person who took the photos of said naked girls, there are copyright issues. Again, we get complaints from copyright holders about their images being distributed via our boards.
All of this is outlined in the Terms of Service that have been in place since late 2001. It's not a "new" thing, it's just that when the complaints pile up, we have to remove the porn. See the terms of service, section 6, for more details.

It's where the complaints were pointing to
On busy days, we average 10k new posts in a single day. We can't check every single post in every forum, which is why a lot of stuff slides past. If there's a problem on other boards, let us know - that's what the "Notify Admins" link is for at the top of the page.

DOH!
I'm not trying to be a contentious pr1ck but I'm just curious about the copyright issue. If we cannot post pics taken by other people, nudes or otherwise, and presumably the copyright being held by that person or some other entity, does that mean we can't post pics from BMW's website or from any other websites like Dinan, BBS, etc? If that is to be the policy I think that these boards will be the Internet equivalent to listening to TV on the radio.
Like I said, I'm not trying to cause trouble here but it's a policy that I understand that RF makes but there is nothing wrong with some lively analysis from your customers. Incidentally, I think that your TOS disclaimer pretty much covers RF from liability. As far as the p0rn being seen by kids, tell the complainers to file a beef with Google. All a kid needs to do is do a Google image search for "sex" and the world will open up and swallow them whole.
Some examples that are likely violative of copyright law that proliferate your site and hundreds of others.
Notice the "Š Copyright 2004 Dinan Cars. All Rights Reserved" at the bottom:

Notice the "Š 2004 BMW of North America, LLC".

Interesting tidbit from Dinan
Dinan's legal notice on use of their content:
"Corporate Terms and Conditions
All documents and other content on this Web site are the property of Dinan and may only be copied for personal, non-commercial purposes. Without specific authorization from Dinan, you agree that any copy of the documents or other information downloaded from this site shall retain all copyrights and trademarks.
All photographic and graphic images on this Web site are the property of Dinan. Photographic and graphic images may only be downloaded for personal, non-commercial use."
I would consider us posting any pictures as "personal, non-commerical purposes" since I don't make a penny from it. I would however, accept contributions via PayPal. ;-) I know that this is only representative of Dinan but copyright law should be the same.
Seriously, this is an issue that has a serious impact on RF boards if you are to enforce it at all much less consistently.

not that I condone deletion of post or eliminated
all the offensive NWS post but how hard would it be to run a SQL script to query and delete all posts with a NWS on the subject line??? Both the M lounge and e38 gets a lot of more of these post than us....-----------

Were KX5's parents complaining again??? LOL
seriously - type in bl_wjob into Yahoo - it returns 6,450,000 hits. I kid you not. Do parents complain to yahoo?
That's a shame it suddenly had to be taken so seriously here. I am sure that ultimately there will be fewer hits to the boards.....people frequent it less....advertisers get fewer hits....fewer membership sales....loss of revenue....etc. Maybe - maybe not. I guess time will tell.
