Anyone ever host a foreign exchange student?
We have one now... His name is Ilya.. He is 16, from Moscow, and he drives me nuts. He thinks he knows EVERYTHING, but he is usually wrong. For instance, he says that he doesnt need to wear a seatbelt in the car because they don't do anything above 15 mph... uhhh.... HELLO! God he is driving me crazy! He treats the X5 like a trash can. He spills lots of things and leaves trash in there, so I told him no more eating. So what does he do? Goes out to the garage and SPILLS COFFEE ALL OVER THE CAR! He is leaving January 15... It can't come soon enough!... NH is starting to get into winter... 36 degrees here this morning!

CuriousJoel: You gotta take that silver spoon out+
of your mouth and realize that everyone is not as cool as you are.
One would think it might be interesting to learn a little about an age peer's culture and life from ol'Russia. Jes'my 2Cts.
By the bye, we had 38 degs F., this am, in western NC, which is aprox 1100 miles South of Laconia, NH. BR,mdDavid

Curious
I hear you, Joel, but think about how you'd be viewed if you were in his country. They might just think that some of your behavior is insensitive and maybe just plain rude. Take it easy, be patient and understanding, and help him understand American culture. It'll take some time but he'll get it. For examply the seatbelt thing, rather than debate the guy as to the merits of using it, tell him it's the law and everyone has to use them whether they believe in them or not. Simple. Don't let it get you down too much.
You sure are curious.
Solution to the spilling in the X5: Just get rid of it and replace it with a nice solo seater like this. Beep beep!

"Kiryas Joel" : an actual lil'town, listed as a +
"Village", in Orange County, NY, aprox 45 miles NW of NYC. I lived a few miles from this lil'burg. It is, actually, a very seperate community, legally and culturally, from most towns in NY: a very closed society of Hassidic Jews with their own closed/seperate school sys., culture, etc. Many of the men from that community work in the "diamond district", east 47th St.,in Gotham.
Prounounced Keerus Joel.
Bored waiting on the Beagles game, lol! How do I know this crap?!

Take him out in your X5 and make him sit up front.
Then go fast, real fast (90+ mph) and hit a hard stop. If his head is not poking out through the windshield, then tell him "OK, I believe you now. Seatbelt doesn't do anything above 15mph".
Otherwise, send him back to Moscow in a coffin.<br>

IFly: the new/2nd joint in Naples is "in line" +
to be built but Collier county was backed up, permit/zoning-wise and not enough payoffs, I think. Thus, the new "start time" on the new money pit is late Oct or Nov. We'll get there about Mayish to hang drapes, paint and turn around and come back to the Mtn. Maybe the winter of '05-'06, lol! mdDavid

CJ: More 2Cts...he is probably a lil'nervous, +
wants to show he is Superior Russian young citizen, not babushka baby; he is trying to elevate himself to "US kid" or higher level, with all the attendant macho snobbery that young men from any country toss around at each other. He is probably reacting,(over reacting), with his manner and 'tude. Or, he could be jes'a russkie dork/******* and he is never gonna come around, lol! Jeesh, I sound like drfookingPhil and that guy is really an *******. NEway, get along or block him out, and Jan will be here sooner than you think. GL, Ol'UncleMotorDavid

Yeah... I hope he changes
I've been thinking, hoping, praying and wishing that it was just a nervousness thing.. But he is settled in now, and he still acts the same. Today we were at the KFC drivethrough and I smelled something burning... I looked in the backseat, and the little [Oops!] TOOK THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER TO THE SEAT OF MY X5!!!!! I felt like killing him! I finally had it and I just let loose yelling.. I told him from now on he needs to realize my car is a nice, expensive car, NOT a trash can, and that its the light of my life! He also needs to realize that my camera is not his, everything I own is not there for him to vandalize, and that if I say we are leaving at a certain time, we are LEAVING at that time! The other day he held us up for three hours because he had a detention and didnt bother to tell anyone! I missed 2 appointments... His response to my tyrade was "I didnt do anything, bastard!" (Yes, he knows what bastard is)
So ready to move him back to Moscow!
