    It's official: 1 series coming to U.S. in 2007

BMW chairman Helmut Panke, speaking at the Paris Auto Show, just announced, and I quote: "in 2007 we will be entering the U.S. market with a further variant of the 1 Series."

His remark came just after he compared the 1 with the original 2002 of the 1960s. Makes me think this "further variant" will be the non-hatch version.

Re: It's official: 1 series coming to U.S. in 2007

It has to be the cabriolet (or coupe) version, now badged as "Ci" instead of 2-series! I can't believe they'd come to the U.S. with the current 5-door "sports hatch" or a station wagon ("touring" in BMW-speak). This surely means a 6-pot engine variant(s) will be seen by 2007 too.

IMO the 4-door saloon is the most unlikely variant of the 1-series to enter production, since it'd be most likely to steal sales from the new 3-series which also starts with a saloon variant.

From the few spyshots I've seen of the cabrio and coupe, they promise to be much better looking than the hatchback, as their bum is somewhat smaller ;).

I wonder if he means Model year or Calendar year?

If 2007 M.Y., then we could see it in the fall of 2006.
If he meant Calendar year, then he probably is referring to the 2008 M.Y.
    Whacha think?
