    Changing speedometer/odometer to miles

I bought my car in Canada, and now I'm in the Bay Area. I've been told I need to change the speedometer/odometer to "one graduated in US miles"

I phoned Allison BMW, and they want to change the whole instrument panel (about ~ $1K)!! This is for a 2000 323Ci. I was hoping there's a sticker I can put on that has miles instead of kms, and that the computer can be easily set to miles. Any idea? Any suggestions for a place to go to?

Also, any tips on good BMW repair shops to go to? Allison charges $130/hour which is pretty steep. I knew a very good independent place in Toronto, but I'm new to the area and so I'm hoping to find another one here.

i'm not sure about the new bimmers but

maybe you can just change the top layer that has the miles etc. printed on it
pull out your panel, pop off the glass/plastic and rip off the present one and put on the new one?
    it shouldn't cost that much
