    san juan islands bmw

Just drove my 92 525i from East Coast. Has 311,000 miles and still purrs! Aside from two busted lenses on front-end lights...no problems whatsoever. Since arriving, my speedometer has quit (almost). It kinda' bounces, but basically it reads zero. Anybody know what that is? Moreover, are there any shops accessible from the San Juans? I am on Orcas Island and would prefer not to spend big bucks on ferries! Thanks.

    Speed sensor?

Just a thought, as I don't really have experience here... When that happened to my E30, it was a speed sensor that attached at the differential. Unfortunately, I understand it's very hard to reach in the E34.
Speed sensor info, care of bmwe34.net

I have also heard it could be a coding plug or conductor plate behind the speedometer itself. But I think speedo surging was the symptom for that one.

311,000? Very impressive! My E30 made it to almost 200,000 when I passed it on to a new family.

Look for Mark Petry in the phonebook....

I bought my 750il from him earlier this summer. He lives up there and had a local shop do all his work, including installation of a new engine. Apparently the guy works on all the local Mercedes, Lambourghinis (sp?), etc. He lives on Bainbridge Island. I'll look tonight and see if I still have is phone number. I'm sure I do, as the car came with all his reciepts.
