16" wheels/tires should be good with E39 from previous posts, your wheels have a different offset value (the distance between the hub and center of the wheel) than the E39's. Your wheels work with the 3 series.
Please let me know if you decided to sell the tires separately.

E39 Winter tire package,(4)Bridgestone Blizzak WS50 225/55QR16 mounted and balanced on AT Italia type 5 wheels with BMW center caps, perfect no scratches. Paid 1100 from Tire Rack 2k miles sell 850 obo; [email protected] (CT)

I have a set of the base rims with brand new all
season tread on them. Rims are in very good shape. Used them on my 98 528i for winter but I sold the car with the 19" on them. I will let them go cheap my email is [email protected] if your are interested. Dennis
