Don't go to Rich's Car tunes in Watertown
I have DSP, and went to him because my bass sounded like crap. Rich was very sneaky about installing a new woofer, basically putting it in with the understanding that I'd be able to go back to the OEM setup if I was unhappy with the results.
In the end the sound wasn't much better, and I was out $500... And Rich said he'd charge me for 3 hours of labor to go back to OEM.
It wasn't worth the time and effort to fight him, but I'm not going back again....

Re: Audio Upgrade
If you're looking for just added bass (as in you're happy w/ highs and mids from the factory setup), I'd suggest either Tweeter in Braintree or for the same quality work but half the price, there's a small shop on the corner of my street (email me for address and phone #) that just opened a few months ago. He does alarms for Herb Chambers Honda/Toyota/Infiniti and is into high end custom stereo & A/V systems on BMW, Mercedes, Acura, and Lexus. He has a black GS430 that gets so much attention around here it's not even funny. Not sure what it has for sound but every night you see 6 screens on inside (both visors, both headrests, dash, and 14" drop down from the ceiling), and a motorized trunk lid.

Re: Audio Upgrade
You may want to talk to the folks at Sound in Motion , there work is outstanding and they have lots of experience with BMWs as well.
Their website is at http://www.sound-in-motion.com , you
can call them at 617.787.7744 (Jim or Derek).
For an example of their work you can check out the installation they've done in my X5 at http://www.sound-in-motion.com/installs/bmw_x5.html and http://www.janixworld.com/x5/Stereo/

That was yours!!! They still show the pics...
of your install! They were one of the places I checked out and as soon as I mentioned that I wanted to retain a stock appearance inside, they showed me the pics to show what they can do keeping a stock look while also wkg w/ the factory DSP. I ended up not going with them because of the price of what I wanted to do. Not that they weren't fair, but if I was doing more, then yeah. But for just adding a single amp, 2 subs in a box in the trunk, DVD player, and screens in the visors, 80% of the work I was doing myself. SIM comes highly recommended from all around.
