Edmunds or KBB will not be much help >>>
for a 20 year old car.
However, since it's a 6er, I use that board all the time as a 6er owner too!
Just post your info (E24 board) as much as you know, including any pics which are always helpful.
BTW, where are you? I'm down in the south bay, Sunnyvale!
Cheers, Bob

Re: I have my Mom's 85 csi bmw
Ok, can someone tell me what the difference between and 630 and 633 csi is? This is tough. The car has been garaged for months. Covered and everywhere I read is about 633 csi, not 630's.....I know she paid a lot for it in 85....and just kept it covered. Not much saying about it in the edmonds.com

85 630CSi? look in the driver's side door
bobbo correct me if i'm wrong
and find the VIN # and check it out...
never heard of a 630 in my life... at least not in NA
i thought after 84 it changed from the 633CSi to the 635CSi
and with 75k miles
don't sell it :)
that's what i say
i landed my buddy an 86 alpineweiss with 128k and loads of records for 3400
guy wanted 4900, dropped to 3900, we cut off another 500 after test driving the sexy monster
keep!!!! it's a gem

OK, some model ID info >>>
The 630 CSi was the first 6er on these shores, available only in '77. It was quickly replaced in '78 with the 633, which was available thru '84. Ian is correct on this one. 1985 represents the model year that BMW finally offered the 635 CSi in North America, alhtough still way down on power compared to it's European cousin. Too bad, we waited 7 years and it had like 2 more HP than the 633!!!
Anyway, Ian has some good ideas for you Naomi. Run the VIN, or have it done thru CARFAX or other establishment. This will tell you what model you really have there. You can check in various places on the car itself, like the drivers door jam, under the hood on the right side, for instance.
It is most likely a 635 CSi US version. Oh, you can also tell US versus Euro version very easily. Does it have giant bumpers?, or trim little chrome ones. What is the language on the gauges inside? Small bumpers and German writing?, Euro version. Easy!
Last thoughts, unless you really need/want to get rid of this car, hang on to her!!! True, may drain your wallet a little, but these cars are gems, fun to drive and equally fun to be seen in. Especially for a female, as most owners/drivers of 6ers are male. 75k is relatively low miles for a 6er and any 20 year old car for that matter. And if has truly been covered for a good part of its life, all the better. Sun tends to take its toll on the plastic parts and interior.
OK, 6 series class is over for now :)
Cheers, Bob

Thank you all, but still a mystery.....on VIN check it shows
1985 BMW 635CSI but everywhere on car says 630....do I have a winner? I can't keep her :(....she was my Mom's and I don't need another car...I want her garaged as she was for 20 yrs. I dont have room in mine and I hate to say this "american" cars LOL

Well, I don't know about it being a winner...
you may have a car that was miss-badged after a repaint, maybe.
Just doesn't add up, why would somebody label this car as a 630 when it is in fact a 635???
So, when you say "everywhere on the car", does that imply that the factory labeling, like those found in the door jam, say 630 CSi? There should also be a date of manufacture there. It would be month and year only. Check that out too, should match up with your carfax report.
How about some pics? If you can't post here, sent them to me directly.
We'll sort this one out yet.
HTH!

I'd love to see pics of the car too! send me!! plz
if you find the right person (collector????)
you can get a pretty penny for it, for the fact that it's under 100k miles
some insane idiot on craigslist.org is trying to sell his 6er for 20,000 dollars
yes... 4 zeros after that 2
it has 25,000 miles on it or something like that
check out what they're going for on ebay as well
but you should reallllllllllllly think about keeping her! =(
i'll be very sad if you sell such a beauty

What are you talking about, Kev?
Are you wishing for a 6er in the family, or another wife? ;-)
