    '05 130i vs A3 "longtail" 3.2 = easy ...

    130i: 5-dr rwd 258bhp/3300lb 3-ltr 0-60=apprx 6
    A3 longtail: 5-dr 4x4 250bhp/3500lb 0-60=low 6
    1er is pretty ugly, but the facelifted A3 isn't much better any longeq with its new gaping grille.. As expected, the "130i" will cost even more than the A3, but offers rwd fun. You can't get real, pure 100% rwd on _any_ Audi!

    First off you rather putatively pronounce the 1er to be "pretty ugly". An IMO, or rather an IMVHO, wouldn't have gone amiss. I happen to rather like the styling. At least it makes it stand out from the crowd.

    On what basis have you extrapolated the 0-60 time of a car that hasn't been announced, let alone introduced, yet? Apart from the engine, and we may be confident that it's going to be the 258 bhp valvetronic 3 litre, the gearing is decisive in determining what the eventual figure will be.

    Finally, you appear to be pretty confident in your statement that, and I quote: "As expected, the "130i" will cost even more than the A3". How do you know? Merely looking at what existing comparable cars cost might give some indication but by no means does it mean you can confidently pronounce it the way you do.

    Let's wait till the damn thing is actually introduced and the pricing is announced. Then we can have fun and games comparing it with the A3 and other possible, not many, competitors.

    Having seen dozens of 5dr 1ers on the road and parked next to older BMWs,I think 1er looks too tall (esp the front), and also too long from the side view.Rear is also butt ugly:). Even the interior looks bad compared to E39/E46/E38 or any other of the older models.Actually ALL bangle-bimmers are very ugly (imsho),best looking being Z4 and the worst 7er.

    The new 330i with the same engine as 130i, has a 0-60 time of low 6s. And the 1er is just 60kgs lighter than the bigger and more expensive 3er with the same engine...

    An "in my opinion" or words of the same description.

    Tastes differ, a chacun son goût. I like it very much. I think the interior is tastefully minimalist. Ever sat in One? Ever driven One?

    Interesting that you do like the design of the Z4. More than once has it been remarked that the 1er in many ways resembles a kind of Z4 coupe. Then again, perceptions differ too.

    BTW, new e90 320i will also have the same engine as the 120i. 0-60 is quoted at 9.0 secs with a top speed of 220km/h. The 120i does it 8.7 secs but with a surprising top speed of only 217km/h. Gearing you think? Or might it be that the higher weight is more than compensated for by a lower drag coefficient?

    That leaves the price level but you know all about that, don't you? Especially when compared to the 3.2 A3.

    I think the A3 is much better looking (in pics)...

    even with the new snout (IMHO) - the 1 looks like a MAzda3 (IMHO). true no RWD in the A3 but it will have Quattro. will the 1 have AWD? the A3 should be pretty hot with the 3.2 DSG.....or even better as an S3.

    If E90 330i runs 6.4 with auto, 130i should be 6.0

    A3 is actually even heavier than new A4!

    Incredible,but true:A3 s'back is actually even heavier than the all new A4 with similar engine and drivetrain! This has marked effect on agility,handling and N'ring laptimes.Makes u wonder who actually would buy the s'back? Even the '07 RS3 will be beaten by the '07 RS4 which has a lighter NA engine!
