Urgent!! how to avoid digital odometer rollback?
hi, all!!
i got a problem!! actually not my car, is my bf's x5
my bf's has a pretty high mileage on his leased x5 , so he is "smart" enough trying to get a (from ebay) new odometer changed (remove and replace).
i am worry, cuz i knew this is a fraud.! and illegal !
but he wont listen to me, unless i show him proof this is not working!!
can anyone help me on this, beside telling him is illegal,
i think if i tell him if he uses those digital odometer rollback programmer will cost him like 2000, he may proabbly stop,
but the thing is, he thinks he didn't even need to use that to program it, instead just changing the odometer parts is enough.
he wont listen to a woman, so if anyone can tell me some FACTS
and i can talk him into it
Thanks A LOT!!!

You may want to work on your grammer. Sounds like a case for Jerry Springer. To be honest, I would recommend he change it out, he sounds like a "smart guy", everything will work out. Keep in mind, it's always good to have the X-5 detailed out before you return it that way the dealer will never know.

Your boyfriend is a 'tard, and from the writing +
style of your post, it looks like you don't need to be clearing any space on the mantle for a Nobel Prize either.
The x5 tracks the mileage on at least 3 computers in the vehicle. It's not just as simple as rolling back the visible odometer. It can be done but it's very expensive. Some POS machine on ebay ain't gonna do it.
But, every dealer he's ever been to for service keeps records of the mileage. So, it's a bust if he rolls back the miles before what it was the last time he had it serviced.
Get a new boyfriend. I suggest Chris F.

Mileage is coded on key. We could use him as a
test case and see what kind of legal ramifications he gets. My stepfather sues people/dealers who do this rollback stuff. I dont know if changing odometer would then change the key's output to dealer. Let us know what he does, I'd be interested to see how much "time" he does.
Here's a link that says its illegal. He would probably just be nailed in a state court.

Changing/replacing odometer will work?
Thanks for everyone reply.
i sent him links abt the illegal part, and i sent him emails regarding my concern.
then he replied me that, he is not trying to do a rollback, he said what he is doing is "change and replace" the odometer part!!
he bought two odometer on ebay, and he will use it then by the time he returns the car to the dealer, he will switch it back.
then i asked him "if everyone can do that, why dont' all the dealer do that to sell the used car in a better price?" is a common sense.
then he asked me stop questioning him on this issue
i dont understand the mechanical part at all.
so i can't argue with him.
so i did my part of "warning" him, and advice him.
now is his call on doing it or do, which i doubt he will listen to me at all.
does anyone ever heard of changing/replacing odometer will work?

Re: Your boyfriend is a 'tard, and from the writin

he bought two odometer on ebay, and he will use it then by the time he returns the car to the dealer, he will switch it back.
so the mileage thing u mentioned is not in his case, the milege stops when he take it out, and runs after he put it back on.
i dont understand the mechanical part at all.
so i can't argue with him.

Dealers..ddaaaa..Don't do it cause it's illegal..
and dishonest.I was being sarcastic. You are really stupid and you should marry this guy. While you are at it, have a couple of kids so this loser can raise them. He also needs to get a better understanding of how the elec. work in the X-5...Do you line in a traier...
