Moving to Dallas!
Hi Guys,
I'll be moving to Dallas area next month. I was looking at renting an Apartment near the DFW Airport and then after 3 to 6 months look at buying a House!
Do you think Irving area is good to live in, Is that the best area if I need regular access to the Airport? Anyone know of any decent Apartments there?
I read some posts on extra care needed to protect the Bimmer from the TX hear...Nu Finish? :)
I'm excited to live in a bigger place where there will be Bimmer meets etc. as I've been living in Iowa till now!
See Y'all soon in Dallas :)!

Re: Moving to Dallas!
Before I forget why I'm stopping to respond.......
DON'T MOVE TO IRVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if it's only for a few months.
It's sort of the armpit of the metromess IMO. Amongst other negatives I could apply to it, they're still lumbering around in the Prohibition era there as you can't buy alcohol. :(
If you need regular, quick access to the Airport, consider Valley Ranch, Los Colinas, Grapevine, Colleville, the H-E-B area (Hurst, Euless, Bedford), Lewisville, etc. Just trust me, you won't enjoy Irving. All you're going to get in Irving is lower housing costs, but that's because nobody else want's to live there. lol
Welcome,
Rusty

Re: Moving to Dallas!
I've worked in Irving for the last 6 years, but live in Carrollton, so don't trust my opinion when it comes to housing. . . but. . . there are a few very nice apartment complexes near my office (near the MacArthur and Highway 114 intersection) that I see on my drive into work. I haven't been impressed with the part of Irving that is south of highway 183. Also, the airport is easily accessable from a number of different cities such as Hurst-Euless-Bedford, Coppell, Arlington, Grapevine, etc., so you don't need to limit yourself to just Irving Have you ever lived near an international airport? It can get pretty noisy. Perhaps you may want to give yourself a little buffer.

Don't move to Irving!!!
What is your budget for rent??? Do you like suburbs or do you prefer to be near the heart of the city??? Do you like fake/plastic people??? What's the maximum commute you would consider (during rush hour) to get to the airport??? Will you ever need to fly out of Love field (Southwest Airlines) instead of DFW???

Welcome to Dallas...
Feel free to e-mail me...I sell residential real estate here so I'm quite familiar with all of the areas. When you mentioned "Irving" (blasted in a below post) you could've meant the nicer parts, specifically Valley Ranch and Las Colinas, which are technically Irving. If you're looking to be close to the airport (within 10 minutes) and have good access to major highways, shopping, dining, etc., then the Valley Ranch area is a good bet. There are a lot of apartments around the 114/MacArthur intersection that would be a good start when you next come to town to check things out. It's generally a newer, safer, cleaner area with just about everything you need in close proximity.

Re: Apartment Details
I have to fly every Monday morning and return on Thursday so need to be fairly close to DFW!
Here are some of the Shortlisted Apartments (Based on Internet Research, not yet seen)
Huntington Ridge 4220 Esters Rd.
The Trails Of Valley Ranch 9478 E. Valley Ranch Pkwy.
Benchmark Apartments 3424 W. Country Club Dr.
MacArthur Ridge Apartments 10701 MacArthur Blvd.
Highlands of Valley Ranch 9500 Valley Ranch Pkwy E
Remington Hills at Las Colinas 1201 Meadow Creek
So these do seem like they are in the Valley Ranch area!
What do you think?
And yes, I'll definitely be in touch with Dallas 540 regarding the House!
Is there a convenient public transport to the Airport too? I can move a little further from the Airport if there is some fast trasport nearby!

Hehe...I want to get to know the area first
I want to live in the area for few months before deciding which place I would like to buy the house in! I intend to do that and that is why I did not move to the Bay Area...too expensive...
I'm not a very morning person and I would love to wake up half hour late if I'm closer to the Airport :)zzz

my house is for sale, I'm looking in Gapevine.
Hey Ash77,
look at my IP. It takes me 20 minutes to get to work from my house. 3 car garage, 3bedroom, 3 bath, pool, 2 living areas, good schools. I haven't listed it yet, but It sold for $155K three years ago, so if I can get that back out of it, I make my money back on the payments(kind of).
Ruepreckt,
Details on the house?
