i purchased this car 11/02 with 54000 since then i put on 26000 with no problems. About 2 weeks ago i began getting clouds of smoke behind the car when starting and really bad when idleing. This happened so suddenly i cant figure it out and either can BMW they replaced the exaust manifold gasget and did a dripdown test which showed normal compression and no ring problems, they dont know what the problem is. The warranty company i have does not pay for breakdowm and says they only cover lubricated moving parts, i will post there name latter so no-one uses them in the future. If anyone could help me in this situation i would appreciate it. thanks ron

This seems to be a Mass Flow Sensor problem. Buy a new for around $300 and replace it yourself.

Ron is your cel on?? and also does the engine shake on cold start, and is cold start hard. Also is the smoke coming from the engine compartment or out of the exhaut pipe. Contact me with this info via email address.
