anyone ever seen an e28 w/ rack&pinion steering

I need a new steering box. Anyone know a good rebuilder. I can get a low milage used one from the guys at Vines for a good price, but then again I already have a used one. Yet I would like to put a rack&pinion in if I could?

I've wondered about this myself. The rack certainly works on the E30, which shares the M20 engine with the E28. But my gut tells me that there is a space issue with the rack, possibly interfering with the oil pan. I'm thinking it would take some pretty careful custom fabrication to make a rack work in an E28. The geometry is likely to be quite different. I wish I still had my E30 to do some measurements, but alas it is no more.
