    Aftermarket Stereos

I just bought a 1999 BMW 740i with 80,000 miles on it. It has the DSP stereo system with CD changer but I find the sound to be disappointing. I'm tempted to hire someone to rip it out and replace it with a custom install of high end after market stereo components of similar pedigree as the car itself. Is it practical to do this, or am I going to find that BMW's sound system is integrated into the rest of the car's electonics to the point that's it's futile to try to put in an aftermarket audio system? Yes, I know that the stereo system that I'm thinking of ripping out is supposed to be the cat's meow and that higher quality sound will not come cheap. My question whether there are replacing the stereo system rather than whether it is me or BMW's engineers who are tone deaf.

Dont rip out the bmw stereo it is linked into the system. You will have all kinds of electric and battery problems. What you can do is replace the spks with higher quallity spks and this might satisfy you. Good luck
