    e38 Extended Warranty

It is time for me to consider whether I want an extended warranty for my 2001 740iL (18,000 miles). Do most of you have one? Any recommendations?

Only 18k miles in four years???? Sweet.

I do that in 6 months or less. How much would the extended warranty cost you?Mark

The Warranty Center (who ever they are) has a chart to chose from but lists 84 months and 100,000 miles of the "preffered" (supposedly covers much more) at $2499.00. They don't have required maintenance items. I have asked for proof of company rating, etc and lists of BMW 7 items covered, but alas, no reply. It all makes me wonder.

Does anybody use aaautowarranty for extended protection? --- or is everybody pressing ahead without extended coverage? Anybody?

Didn't bother. I've heard too many horror stories.

The warranty agreement I looked at required proof of oil changes every 3,000 miles before they'd cover a claim. I do that many miles every month and I think monthly oil changes would be a huge waste of time and money. I've had some issues with my '01 740iL Sport, but they'd all be considered wear-and-tear.Mark

Your "findings" mirror my concerns. Thank you for the reply. I am really on the fence. The gamble seems to be on drive train reliability and while I've seen those horror stories (excluding radiator, water pump, pixels, etc), the number has to be a small percentage of total production. The definitions of wear and tear, and periodic maintenance seem to work well for the "eye of the beholder", be it the stealer or insurance company.

I can recommend National Auto Care

No proof of maintanence needed. I bought it at a BMW dealer, and there is no deductible if repair is to be done there. No paper work for me either. If done elsewhere, I need to file for reimburstment and $50 deductible (even at another BMW dealer). I went with the 5yr/60K miles plan for $2450 back in '02. Try to find them thru google.com. They have been reasonable in coverage.

Thanks for the info. The rate seems to be in the lower part of the range that I have found, and if the coverage is good, that is great.
